Junior Gateway

Ammanford Junior Gateway is a Charity for children and young adults with a learning disability affiliated with Mencap.

The Purple Dragon club runs on alternate Saturdays from 10.00am to 12.00 noon and cost £2.00 per session for children with a Learning disability aged 3-16 years and their siblings.

A learning disability is any form of disability which makes it difficult for a child to learn and socialise. Autism and Downs Syndrome are examples of learning disabilities.

The club is important to the children because many of them cannot cope with large, noisy mainstream clubs. The club allows the children along with their siblings to play with each other with the help of volunteers and qualified child-care workers. We have a variety of activities e.g. games, crafts, music, dance, arts and outings.

The Active Dragon Club run a Young Enterprise and buddy project weekly on Thursday evening between 5-7pm for children with learning disabilities and their peer friends ages 11 -18.

The charity and all children attending the club are registered with the Special Olympics, Mencap Gateway Award and the Children’s University. We encourage all young people to participate in various sports, activities and awards which build skills and confidence.
